What is Osgood Schlatter disease?

Osgood Schlatter disease is a common cause of pain and tenderness at the tibial tuberosity (bony prominence below the knee cap). It typically presents in late childhood and early adolescence. This condition is more common in boys and often only affects one knee. Althoough considered a self-limiting condition; it can often take months to years to resolve entirely.

The cause of Osgood Schlatter disease:

Osgood Schlatter disease occurs at the site of the growth plate. Repetitive pulling on this area by strong muscles such as the quadriceps can result in injury to the growth plate and subsequent pain.
