Plantar Warts (Verrucae Pedis)
What are Plantar Warts?
Plantar warts are painful benign lesions that contain nerve endings and blood vessels. These lesions are due to the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). The virus is transmitted from person to person through tiny cuts and breaks in the skin.
Signs and Symptoms of plantar warts:
- A lesion which is often painful especially on high pressure areas
- A lesion with a cauliflower appearance and tiny black pinpoint pigments throughout
- The plantar wart may have spread to multiple locations
Treatment of plantar warts:
Treatment is patient dependant. Possible treatments include:
- Mild acids
- Freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen
- Multiple puncture technique under local anaesthetic
